The LMVJV has a new MAV Partnership Coordinator!
Our new MAV Partnership Coordinator officially came on board Monday, the 17th of August 2026! As the newest member of the LMVJV’s office staff, she will be an employee of Wildlife Mississippi.
Alyssa Tomb is a recent graduate of University of Arkansas at Monticello who received a Master’s of Science in Forestry-Wildlife Ecology and Management. Her research topic of choice is a subject dear to our hearts: the influence of Forest Breeding Bird Decision Support Model (FBBDSM)-informed reforestation on winter habitat suitability for Mallards in Arkansas! Her thesis is titled “Influence of Bottomland Hardwood Forest Reforestation on Winter Habitat Suitability for Mallards in Arkansas.”
A native of Pennsylvania, Alyssa was an undergraduate at Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania, where she investigated the hardiness of native plant species versus invasive species. Most recently, she served as a Global Change Research Fellow with the Southeast Climate Adaptation Science Center from 2025 to 2026.
Alyssa has amassed a wealth of knowledge and experience during her time in the Delta, gaining a deep appreciation for the MAV's habitats and people. She has extensive volunteer and community experience, which includes bottomland hardwood reforestation; banding of waterfowl, songbirds, and shorebirds; waterfowl nest searching; and educational presentations.
Alyssa was also an award-winning collegiate competitive swimmer, receiving numerous awards for both athletic and academic excellence. Her Gwendolyn Baker Scholar-Athlete Award, received in 2024, recognizes the year’s outstanding senior female student-athlete.
Welcome Alyssa! If you’d like to reach out, she can be reached at atomb@wildlifemiss.org.
